Advent and Christmas at Old Bergen Church

Here are the Advent and Christmas happenings this year at Old Bergen Church. We hope that you will find meaningful and exciting opportunities to celebrate the season with us – either in person or online.

December 4th – Second Sunday of Advent: We will continue to light the Advent wreath as more and more light fills the darkness of this season. On this Sunday we will observe the “Hanging of the Greens” as well as the sacrament of Communion. For the first time in over two years, we will actually serve bread and the cup (with some modified precautions) as we had before the pandemic. 

Friday, December 9th is the Children and Youth Christmas Party at 7:00 PM.  Meet in the pArlor for holiday crafts, singing, refreshments, and maybe a surprise visit from a special guest! 

Sunday, December 11th – Third Sunday of Advent. Children and young people will gather in Brett Hall for Sunday school activities in anticipation o fo Christmas. In worship we will decorate the Chrismon Tree. 

Saturday, December 17th will be our monthly Food Pantry; We will hold our Food Pantry one week earlier than usual so that families will have food in their homes for Christmas. 

Sunday, December 18th – Fourth Sunday of Advent – The children will present a Christmas Tableau with props and costumes depicting that first Nativity. We will also welcome special musicians to enhance our worship experience. 

Saturday, December 24th – Christmas Eve Candle Light Service at 7:00 PM.  We will hold a service of Lessons and Carols with a brass quartet, special music and concluding with a candlelight experience. 

Sunday, December 25th – Christmas Day Informal Worship in the Parlor.  Come as you are. Come, let us adore Him. We will gather in the parlor for an “at home” kind of worship experience with Christmas carols, stories and holiday refreshments. Worship is at 11:00 AM. 

Saint Peter’s University presents – A Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols – Sunday, December 11th at 5:30 PM at St. Aedan’s: The Saint Peter’s University Church. The public is welcome to an evening of Lessons and Carols featuring the Aiden C. McMullen Chorale and the St. Aedan’s SCHOLA along with choristers from the greater community. A reception will follow the concert on the Fifth floor of the Mac Mahon Student Center.
