Let There Be Light! OBC Goes Solar

Old Bergen Church is going solar! Before the end of the year, we will begin to receive our electric power from the light of God’s sun. After a year-long process of securing a low-interest loan through the RCA Synod, applying for proper building permits and variance approvals, installation has begun for Old Bergen Church to convert to solar electric power. The high tech solar panels are being installed on the south side of the sanctuary roof – out of the view of street level traffic. Not only will this be a more eco-friendly approach to our energy needs, it will also be of financial benefit to the church. Conservative estimates are that when you calculate the monthly savings, the clean energy credits, and the monthly repayment of the loan, we will end up with a net gain of about $8,000 annually over the next ten years.
