Reverse Advent Calendar

REVERSE ADVENT CALENDAR
Here’s an idea to enrich the holiday season – and help those in need. Try
creating a “Reverse Advent Calendar!” Take a basket (or a box), and each
of the 24 days of December leading up to Christmas Eve, add an item
needed for the food pantry. Then, on Christmas Eve, donate the foods
you have collected to the Old Bergen Food Pantry.

DECEMBER 12 – Do you (did you) have the opportunity to go to school. Pray for those who do not have the chance to learn in a school like you, and place a box of mac & cheese in the box.
DECEMBER 13 – Did anyone remember your last birthday? Give thanks and put a can of soup in the box.DECEMBER 1 – Do you have a roof over your head? Place a can of soup in the box in honor of the baby born in a manger.
DECEMBER 2 – How many pairs of shoes do you own? Put a bag or box of pasta in the box, remembering Joseph and Mary who journeyed to Bethlehem.
DECEMBER 3 – Do you have clean water to drink? Put a can or bottle of juice in the box.
DECEMBER 4 – Will you have lunch today? Place a jar of peanut butter in the box.
DECEMBER 5 – How many items of clothing do you think your family owns? More than the grains of rice in a bag of rice. Place a bag of rice in the box.
DECEMBER 6 – How many windows are in your home? Give thanks and place a can of tuna fish in the box.
DECEMBER 7 – Think of how many people you call “friends”. Ask God’s blessings on them and place a can of vegetables in the box.
DECEMBER 8 – How many books or magazines do you think are in your house. Give thanks that your family can read. Put a can or bag of beans in the box.
DECEMBER 9 – Does your home have electricity? Aren’t you glad? Place a can of fruit in the box.
DECEMBER 10 – Count the number of lights in your home. Give thanks for light even in the midst of darkness and place a can of tuna fish in the box.
DECEMBER 11 – Do you have food in your kitchen cabinets? Be thankful and put a can of vegetables in the box.
DECEMBER 12 – Do you (did you) have the opportunity to go to school. Pray for those who do not have the chance to learn in a school like you, and place a box of mac & cheese in the box.
DECEMBER 13 – Did anyone remember your last birthday? Give thanks and put a can of soup in the box.
DECEMBER 14 – Count the doorknobs in your home. Give thanks for the ways God opens doors in our lives. Place any food item of your choice in the box.
DECEMBER 15 – What kind of transportation have you used this past week? Place some pasta sauce in the box.
DECEMBER 16 – How many coats or sweaters do you own. Be thankful for ways to bundle up and put some soup in the box.
DECEMBER 17 – Think of something sweet that someone did for you this past year. Place some jelly in the box.
DECEMBER 18 – Do you have any mittens or gloves? Put some kind of food you can eat with your fingers (crackers? fruit roll, etc.) in the box.
DECEMBER 19 – Does your home have heat? Be thankful and put pasta or noodles in the box.
DECEMBER 20 – Count the number of hats in your home. Put some kind of “brain food” in the box (fish, protein, etc.).
DECEMBER 21 – Do you have a backpack or suitcase? Put some kind of food that packs and travels well in the box.
DECEMBER 22 –Does your home have a refrigerator? Put a can or box of evaporated milk in the box.
DECEMBER 23 – How many plants (real or fake) are there in your home? Put something green in the box.
DECEMBER 24 – Will you celebrate Christmas Eve somewhere today? Place a food of your choice in the box and take the items to the church for the local Food Pantry. Merry Christmas!!
