While we have been isolated in the midst of the pandemic our partners in ministry have been busy finding new ways to carry out our important shared work and outreach. Lenten Prayer Tree
We will offer a new Lenten practice this year for members and neighbors. A Lenten “Weeping Willow” in the side yard of the church (along Highland Avenue). You will find a mailbox with ribbons, markers and instructions for you to write prayers of lament, loss and longing on a ribbon. This year Lent begins on February 17th and continues through Easter on April 4th. Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the season of Lent. Holy Week at Old Bergen Church

Pentecost at Old Bergen
On May 23rd we will celebrate Pentecost with an in-person (hybrid) worship service. Many of our members have been vaccinated now and the infection rate of the virus is finally going down in New Jersey, so the Consistory Session has decided to open the church (at least for this one day) for in-person worship. The pastor will be away May 1-6 leading and attending a hybrid training event at Montreat Conference Center in Montreat. NC. It is the “Arts, Recreation and Worship” conference. Outdoor Worship, Church Picnic & Annual Meeting
On June 13th we will hold an in-person outdoor worship service in the south parking lot at 11:00 AM. The service will still be broadcast by live streaming video. Following worship, we will hold an altered version of our annual church picnic. Households are invited to sit at tables together in “family pods”. Those who are vaccinated may also sit together. On June 13th the congregation elected a new class of officers - Deacons, Trustees and Elders. We are grateful that even in the pandemic, Old Bergen Church has been able to maintain its Food Pantry ministry. We do so with fewer volunteers present, and limited clients in the building at a time - following state and county guidelines. In this time of hardship over half of the people who come to our Food Pantry are seeking food assistance for the first time in their lives.
