Pentecost
Be sure to wear red to church on Sunday, May 19th, as we celebrate the Day of Pentecost. On this day we remember when the early Christian church was filled with the power of the Holy Spirit to be God’s witnesses in sharing the gospel. There will be fellowship hour after church on the front steps following worship.

On Thursday, May 23, 2024, at 7 pm, Old Bergen Church will host a community meeting to kick off the next steps of an independent Pandemic Prevention, Preparedness, Response and Relief Committee. We will address how to enact policy change in areas where trends fail to do what is needed to save lives and protect those who are most vulnerable or whose jobs or living conditions put them, by necessity, at greatest risk of exposure to disease. We will hold our next Food Pantry on Saturday, May 25th from 9:00 AM to 12:00 noon. We welcome anyone interested to help as a volunteer. We could also use some help on the food delivery day, Friday morning, May 24th, as we set up for Saturday’s food distribution. Spin Bikes for Sale
The church received a number of stationary spin exercise bikes. For a short while we held spin classes, but the instructor is no longer available and the bikes are just taking up space in the downstairs Sunday school class. If anyone is interested in getting a bike for a small donation we would like to make them available. Please call the church office for more information.

Sunday, June 9th, will mark the end of the Sunday school year. In worship we will recognize mile markers in our students’ lives and celebrate the gifts that the children of the church bring to our community.

We will hold our church picnic on Sunday, June 9th, following worship. The church will provide burgers, hot dogs and drinks. Participants are encouraged to bring side dishes and desserts to share. The event will be held in the south parking lot. There is a sign up sheet in the parlor to keep track of what people are bringing, or you can speak with one of the Sunday school teachers. Visitors are welcome!

We will hold a clean up day on Saturday, June 29th from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM. We will focus on the church yard and cemetery. Please bring rakes, shovels, and gloves if you have them.
Find out more »Farewell to Our Custodian
After six years of serving Old Bergen Church our custodian, Jhernie Palo, has accepted a job with the NY/NJ Waterways. We wish him success in his new chapter of life. We are currently covering the basics of the custodial responsibilities with volunteers and a couple of people working part time until we decide on a permanent solution. He and his family will be moving out of the apartment the end of June.

Summer Camps and Peace Camp
There are a number of church summer camps, VBS and martial arts classes offered by various Jersey City faith communities. The first classes begin July 15 and the last (evening) VBS ends August 29th.
