Deacons Food Drive
A number of schools in Jersey City are holding food drives during the month of November. Some of them are donating the food they collect to our own Food Pantry at Old Bergen Church. In grateful response, we invite members of Old Bergen to contribute non-perishable food and canned goods this month to the community food pantry held at PS 20 (Dr. Maya Angelou Elementary School). Old Bergen Church will host a community interfaith Thanksgiving Service on Tuesday, November 22nd, at 7:00 PM. Our neighbors from various faith traditions will join us in this inspiring service of unity and thanks. There will be a community choir and other special music. Annual Congregational Meeting
The Consistory Session has called a congregational meeting on Sunday, February 5th, following worship. The purpose of the meeting is to hold our annual meeting to elect a new class of officers, hear reports from various committees, review the pastor';s terms of call, and to receive the budget for 2023. Wednesday, February 22nd marks the beginning of Lent. We will hold an Ash Wednesday Service with the imposition of ashes at 7:00 PM in the sanctuary. In this worship experience we remember our human frailty and our dependence upon God as we recall “from ashes we were created and to ashes we shall return.” Join us on Wednesday evening as we begin our Lenten journey together.

On Sunday, February 26th, we held our first Confirmation Class of the year. We were pleased to welcome a number of students to this series that explores the meaning and practices of our faith. The group will continue to meet once a month and culminate in a one day retreat in May. The young people will be confirmed and received into church membership on Sunday, June 4th. We are excited to return to regular fellowship events again this year. Each month we will host some kind of fellowship meal. On March 12th, following worship we will enjoy a St. Patrick’s Day themed luncheon of Corned Beef and Cooked Cabbage! There is no charge for the lunch which will be held in Brett Fellowship Hall immediately following worship. Come join us for food and fellowship!
